You ordered a website. The designer drew beautiful pictures, the programmer set everything up, you paid the money. A month, two, six months passed... and there were no calls or orders from the website. Does this sound familiar?
Many business owners think that it's enough to simply "have a website" and customers will come to you. But a modern website is a complex mechanism. If even one part of it doesn't work, you're losing money. Let's take a look at the 7 most common mistakes that are causing your website to fail to sell, and see how to fix them.
Mistake #1. It’s not clear what you’re selling (in the first 3 seconds)
A user visits your site and sees a beautiful video and the caption:"We create innovative solutions for your comfort". What is this? Selling air conditioners? Building houses? Massage parlor?
You have exactly 3 seconds for the visitor to understand where they are. If not, they will close the tab.
The main screen (Hero Section) should contain a clear offer. For example:"Turnkey WordPress website development in 7 days"It's immediately clear who you are and what you're good at.
Error #2. The site loads for more than 3 seconds
We live in an era of fast internet. If your website takes a long time to load, 53% of mobile users will simply go to your competitors. Moreover, Google lowers the rankings of slow websites in search results.
Check your site with Google PageSpeed Insights. Compressing images (converting to WebP), configuring server-level caching, and disabling unnecessary scripts usually solve the problem.
Mistake #3. Lack of a call to action (CTA)
A person has read your wonderful text, looked at the prices, and is convinced of your expertise. What should they do next? Where is the "Order" button? Where is the phone number? Where is the contact form?
There should be a logical step on each screen of the site. Buttons"Get a consultation","Order calculation"or"Download price list"should be contrasting and noticeable.
Error #4. Problems with the mobile version
Today, 70-80% of traffic is on smartphones. If the text on your phone is too small, the buttons are out of place, and the menu doesn't open, you're losing customers every day.
Go to your website from your phone right now. Try to leave a request or find prices. If you have to enlarge the screen (zoom) - your website urgently needs mobile adaptation.
Mistake #5. Zero SEO optimization
A website can be perfect, but what good is it if it can't be found on Google? If the developer hasn't written meta tags (Title, Description), hasn't created the correct structure of H1-H3 headings, and hasn't enabled micro-markup, there won't be any organic traffic.
Conduct a basic SEO audit. On WordPress, this is done using plugins (e.g. Rank Math SEO). You need to collect search queries (how customers are searching for you) and enter them into the code and texts of the site.
Mistake #6. Complicated application form
Do you ask a client to provide their full name, date of birth, zip code, email, and home address just to find out the price of the service? No one will do that.
Keep your feedback forms to a minimum. Ideally: "Name" and "Phone" (or "Telegram"). Your manager will ask for everything else during the conversation.
Mistake #7. No social proof (Trust)
Google and people really value the E-E-A-T factor (Experience, Expertise, Authority, Trustworthiness). If your site only has stock (artificial) photos of Americans with perfect smiles and no real reviews, they won't believe you.
Add real photos of your team or work process. Publish real cases (with "Before" and "After" figures). Connect the feedback widget with Google Maps.
Don't know why your website isn't selling?
If you have a website but no calls, don't rush to create a new one. Often, it's enough to conduct a competent technical audit, fix SEO errors, and redesign a few blocks to get customers to leave requests.
